Dr Emily Pikett
Head Clinician. Clinical Policy Group. Department for Work and Pensions.

Emily has a background in palliative care, disability assessment and policy advice. Her passion for palliative care arose from her time working at St Christopher’s Hospice and she is a firm advocate of improving palliative and end of life care services across the UK.

Emily is a medical policy advisor at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), where she provides clinical advice to maintain and develop policies for health-related benefits. As clinical lead for the reform of the Special Rules process, she has been instrumental in improving access to the financial support available for individuals who are nearing the end of their lives.

Emily is undertaking extensive engagement to raise awareness amongst the clinical community of the financial support that is available for all those who are nearing the end of life, whether due to advanced progressive illness, end-stage organ failure, frailty, metastatic cancer, or other terminal conditions. The overall vision is to integrate welfare support into the wider picture of palliative and end of life and encourage consideration of financial needs when holistic conversations take place.
