Dr Tess McPherson
Consultant Dermatologist, Senior Clinical Lecturer and Clinical Lead for Paediatric and Adolescent Dermatology

Tess McPherson is Consultant Dermatologist, Senior Clinical Lecturer and Clinical Lead for Paediatric and Adolescent Dermatology at Oxford University Hospitals and current President of the British Society for Paediatric and adolescent Dermatology (BSPAD). She trained in Cambridge and London (Imperial) before working overseas where she completed a doctorate on skin care in lymphatic filariasis. Dermatology clinical training was completed on the academic training path with research at the institute of molecular medicine working on immune responses in atopic dermatitis (eczema). 
Since becoming a consultant she has developed the service in Oxford including establishing an award winning adolescent service. Dr McPherson is active in national and international paediatric and adolescent dermatology including education, conference organisation, monitoring effects of medications on children and young people (BADBIR registry) and patient information and guidelines for the British Association of Dermatology (BAD). She was lead clinician on an NIHR funded project to develop a web resource for young adults with skin disease on healthtalk.org, works with charities and patient groups to improve resources and has written a book; 'Skin Conditions in Young People: A practical guide on how to be comfortable in your skin'.

She runs the paediatric dermatology service in Oxford. Her particular areas of specialism are Paediatric Dermatology, Adolescent Dermatology, General Dermatology, Atopic Eczema, Psoriasis, Acne, Psycho-Dermatology and Medical Student Education (Clinical Tutor for the undergraduate dermatology course).

Dr McPherson trained at Cambridge University and London at the Imperial College School of Medicine where she graduated with honours and the medicine prize for undergraduates.

She completed specialist dermatology training at the University of Oxford as an Academic Clinical Lecturer, where she combined clinical training with immunological research into Atopic Eczema at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM). She further specialised in Paediatric Dermatology with a fellowship at Birmingham's Children's Hospital.

Her current research interests include Atopic Eczema and patient experiences of skin disease. She is the lead clinician on a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) which has established a web resource for young adults with skin disease (healthtalk.org.uk). She has set up an award winning specialist service for young people with skin disease with psychological support She has been on the Executive Committee of the British Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Dermatology (BSPD) since 2015 and is president elect (2020).
