Dr Maria A Schmidt

Maria Schmidt is a Clinical Scientist with 30 years of experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. She qualified in Physics (BSc. University of Campinas/Brazil) and Medical Physics (PhD University of Aberdeen/UK) and has been a registered Clinical Scientist since 1999. She worked for the NHS since 1994 (Royal Brompton, St George’s and Royal Marsden Hospitals) and retired recently. She has authored approximately 60 publications and has supervised many research students (MSc, PhD, post-doc) with research funding from NIHR, MRC and others. From 1999 onwards, she was responsible for the training of NHS Clinical Scientists in MRI. She is experienced in providing scientific and technical advice to both clinical procedures and research projects in MRI, having acted as MR Safety Expert. Her main areas of interest are breast MRI, MRI in cancer, functional MRI and MR for Radiotherapy Planning. Maria remains an active member of the IPEM and is a Registration Assessor for The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and The Association of Clinical Scientists (ACR).
