Mr Alan Elstone is currently the lead vascular nurse specialist at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, Devon. He has undertaken this role for ten years and has continually strived to improve the service delivered, his practice and mostly importantly the service delivered to our patients. He has a specialist interest in venous disease and lower limb ulceration and independently delivers outpatient based clinics to manage patients referred from primary care. He is also an independent non-medical prescriber. As part of his role, he has been closely involved with the introduction and delivery of endovenous intervention with secondary care, especially with reference to the provision of Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy. He is actively involved in local and national research and lead locally with the EVRA study.
He is currently undertaking a Master’s degree in advanced clinical practice and also participates with local community and postgraduate education. He is a member of the editorial board for the Wounds UK journal and the society of vascular nurses.
