Mike Dobson
Consultant Anaesthetist, Oxford, Hon Senior Clinical Lecturer, Oxford University

In 1980, Mike set up a course on Anaesthesia for Developing Countries which continues to run annually. Participants come from many parts of the world, including North America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Mike continues to teach on this course.

In 1996, he helped set up the Primary Trauma Care Foundation and since then has led and lectured on Primary Trauma Care courses in a variety of countries, including Paraguay, Ecuador, South Africa, Rwanda, Morocco, Iran, Indonesia, Zambia, Congo and Madagascar.

Mike also has extensive experience of training trainers and has been a consultant to the World Health Organization, authoring and editing a range of publications. On behalf of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists, Mike chaired a group that produced a new equipment performance standard, aimed at locations where there is poor infrastructure, which was ratified at the 2012 World Anaesthesia Congress, and two manufacturers have responded by producing suitable machines that meet the standard and distributing them in the developing world.
