Professor Peter Hogg

Peter's areas of professional and research expertise are diagnostic radiography, nuclear medicine, and radiation protection.

His research interests include breast cancer diagnosis; optimisation of radiation dose and image quality.


Peter's previous roles at University of Salford include: Research Dean, Head of Department, Research Centre Director, Master of Science Programme Leader. Journal Editor and Reviewer. Book Author and Editor. Visiting Professor (Hanze University, Netherlands). Visiting Researcher (Karolinska Institute, Sweden). Department Advisor (Hong Kong Polytechnic University). Fellow, Society and College of Radiographers.

He initially qualified as a radiographer in 1984, and in 1986 he qualified in nuclear medicine. He was programme leader of a master’s degree in nuclear medicine for 19 years, and for 5 years he was leader for a programme in nuclear medicine image reading. Presently Peter is Head of Research in the School of Health Sciences and lead for diagnostic imaging research, University of Salford. Over the last 20 years Peter has held a number of BSc, MSc and PhD external examiner appointments throughout the world; presently he is PhD external examiner for the University of Sydney.

He has published widely in diagnostic imaging; also he has edited 4 books and written several book chapters about nuclear medicine. For 5 years he was an honorary consultant radiographer in nuclear medicine. Peter became a Fellow of the College of Radiographers in 2008. In 2009 he became a committee member of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), and between 2010 and 2013 he was a chair of an EANM – [American] Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging working party.
