Richard trained in dermatopathology at St Thomas’ Hospital, for 5 years with Dr Phillip Mckee and Dr Eduardo Calonje.
He was appointed consultant histopathologist in Warwick Hospital with a special interest in dermatopathology (Nov 1999). He is the lead dermatopathologist for the local Arden Cancer Network. They receive referral cases for second opinion from the Arden network, West Midlands and UK.
Richard passed the RCPath diploma in Dermatopathology in 2001 and was subsequently invited to become an examiner for the diploma. He has also set questions for and marked the written paper and has hosted the practical exam in Warwick.
He is on the executive committee of the British Society of Dermatopathology and helps to organise workshops for trainees. He has previously been the organiser of the West Midlands General Histopathology EQA scheme (2004 to 2007) attending the annual National EQA organiser meetings at the RCPath.
Richard has over 40 publications, mainly in dermatopathology and has given regional, national and international invited lectures in dermatopathology. He enjoys attending the majority of the national skin EQA meetings and would like to emphasise the educational value of the EQA scheme that should raise the standards of dermatopathology across the country.
