Susan Melhuish

Susan qualified as an SRN at Musgrove Park Hospital in the 1980s. Following various nursing posts and bringing up her family, Susan began a career in the community, where she first came into contact with palliative care services. Susan developed an interest in palliative care nursing, supporting patients and their carers and joined the team at St Margaret’s in 2004.

Susan’s professional interests include caring for the carers of patients with life limiting illnesses. She has implemented a countywide carers group in Somerset that is specifically for carers of St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice patients.

Susan’s knowledge of carer assessment has been gained from first-hand experience of working with carers and she is a content author for the e-LfH programme.
