Stella Hornby

Stella Hornby runs the eye emergency department in the Oxford Eye Hospital and is also the Clinical Lead for The Practice PLC, a leading independent provider of primary care ophthalmology. She and Dr Andrew Partner provide workshops for General Practitioners based on the Royal College of GP eye statement through their partnership Primary Care Ophthalmology LLP.

Stella has a particular interest in primary care ophthalmology, low vision and education about ophthalmology.

She was awarded a Noble Prize for her MD thesis on childhood blindness from Cambridge, the McCartney Prize for pathology in FRCOphth, and the “Ox-talent award for innovative use of technology in teaching and learning” for an e-learning site for medical students about ophthalmology and most recently an “Excellent Teacher Award” by the Medical Sciences Division of Oxford University. She developed an innovative expert patient-led workshop on “Living with Visual Impairment” for medical students.

Stella is a Module Editor for the e-GP module ’Care of People with Eye Problems’.
