Joanne Hargreaves is the only Musculoskeletal (MSK) reporting radiographer within the radiology department on the island of Jersey.
She was one of the volunteers for a pilot study researching the possible extended role into reporting back in 1992 and has been independently reporting since 1995. She gained her Masters degree in Clinical Radiographic Reporting from the University of Salford in 1999, where her research thesis assessed the impact of training on the accuracy of use of the red dot system.
Whilst in Jersey her scope of practice has expanded from trauma plain films to include GP skeletal referrals and fracture clinic follow-ups. She works alongside a small team of consultant radiologists who regard her as part of the team. She has teaching sessions with the accident & emergency (A&E) junior doctors and emergency nurse practitioners (ENPs) and takes an active part in the radiology multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) and discrepancy meetings.
Joanne describes herself as a devoted ‘bread and butter’ radiographer who loves her job and is keen to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for all things bony! |
