Catherine Doherty
Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Manchester University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

Dr Doherty trained in Anaesthesia in the UK and subspecialty Paediatric Anaesthesia in the UK and a fellowship at The Hospital For Sick Kids, Toronto, Canada. She has been a Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia in Manchester since 2012.

Catherine has a particular interest in medical education and training and is currently the RCOA College Tutor at RMCH. She is also trained in delivering medical education and is a member of the Managing Emergencies in Paediatric Anaesthesia(MEPA) collaboration, and has been a co developer of the Paediatric ENT Skills Course(PESCC) for Consultants run by ENT UK.

She has a subspecialty interest in anaesthesia for airway surgery and quality improvement. Catherine is the lead for the Paediatric Working Group of National Tracheostomy Safety Project (NTSP), a charity with multidisciplinary representation and strong patient involvement, tasked with improving the quality and safety of tracheostomy care. The group published guidelines on the safe management of paediatric Tracheosotmy emergencies in 2018 that have been adopted nationally and internationally.

Catherine is a content author with the National Tracheostomy Safety Project.
